Prayer

There are many different ways to pray.
But I like to break it down into 3 simple ways
1. Written Prayer
2. Worship
3. Reflective (praying off the cuff, fasting)
I am going to spend 3 blogs on 3 different ways to pray.

The 1st is Written Prayer, 2 of the 1st prayers I remember praying are:
Bless us o Lord and these thy gifts which we are about to receive for thy bounty though Christ our lord amen & angel of God my guardian dear to whom his love commits me here ever this night be at my side to light to guard to rule and guide, amen. Of course I prayed the Hail Mary, and Our Father before bed every night of my childhood.
Now in the bible Christ teaches us how to pray in Matthew 6 he says:

5"And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. 6But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. 7And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. 8Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.
9"This, then, is how you should pray:
" 'Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
10your kingdom come,
your will be done
on earth as it is in heaven.
11Give us today our daily bread.
12Forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
13And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from the evil one. 14 For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15But if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.

This is a lot to digest, i know. It is simple though:
Our Father who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come.
Thy will be done
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us,
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil. AMEN

Jesus gives us this prayer in scripture, he teaches us a way to pray and tells us do not do it like these people, or those people. When he says pagans he is talking about pagans for a bit of a history lesson their prayer goes like this:

Healing Chant
Deep in my Bone
the Goddess is alive
Deep in my cells and blood
the Life Force is
Deep in my heart and spirit
I believe I will heal
I feel the Goddess at my core
filling me with faith and health
Abundant Life Forces of the Universe
flow in me, and banish all disease
My blood, my bones, my cells and my body
are healing now, are healing now
The Goddess force is in me
and healing me now

that is what Christ means by babbling praying to false God's that can't fix it, but they think their God's will Hear because of all the words they can say.

How powerful is that prayer that Christ Gave us and Knowing that Christ is God, the Father is God and The Holy spirit is God. God Gave us this Prayer! and It is simple

Then the Hail Mary, which is a combination of the greetings between the angel Gabriel, and St. Elizabeth.

There are other devotionals that Mary has come and given people like St. Dominic and the rosary. She appeared to him in a church and told him to pray it, he developed the Dominicans and it is apart of their daily devotions. The Church has prayed it ever since. I could spend a whole blog just on this topic.

There are also prayers like the Creed which is just a listing of our Catholic beliefs
we say it at every mass, and instead of babbling it because it is just a part of mass truly say it, and feel the power of just that prayer.

There are so many prayers to be said, I can't possibly go over all of them. This is where you go and you start researching start looking and start praying, in your room as Christ calls us to do. Not just as an act; even if you mean it. Like Christ says you will get it in full but that is not how you pray!
